If you're an east-sider from Singapore, or heading towards the east, then you should definitely head to Olivye Cafe-Gelato for a nice western meal or try out their famous Gelato. With four outlets in different parts of Singapore, Olivye Cafe-Gelato offers a variety of more than 60 different dishes of western delights — and you're definitely spoilt for choice. Starting from a pocket-friendly price of SGD$7.90 for a main course, you get to choose from pastas to meat dishes such as chicken, fish and steak, it is definitely a great deal.
Together with my friend, we travelled to the east and had some of the dishes from Olivye. We were clearly satisfied with our lunch due to the fact that we were both western food-lovers. I mean, how do you say no to a large portion of tasty meat with side dishes?
For starters, we were served really yummy bowls of mushroom soup with their amazing garlic bread. I am honestly hardly a fan of garlic bread because I hate to gnaw at the ever-so-hard textures, but this garlic bread from Olivye absolutely blown me away — I am not even kidding! Soup wise, being a die-hard fan of any food mushroom, I really enjoyed it, especially with the bits of mushroom in the soup.
Following which, we were served our main courses each. We had a hard time picking from the lengthy menu, but eventually I settled for Mushroom Chicken with roasted potato (SGD$8.50). Grilled chicken looking tough on the outside yet really tender on the inside, with a splatter of mushroom sauce on top, haven't the photo made you drool yet?
Coupled with their roasted potatoes (really tasty ones indeed), which is actually a healthier alternative to french fries, this main course is really worth every penny. I really liked their roasted potatoes in fact. You can tell by the look of it that the potatoes are really flavorful, being well accompanied with what I think are either herbs and spices, or garlic... or both. Either way, my taste buds definitely adored the potatoes.
As for my friend's main course, he had Black Pepper Grilled Basa Fish (SGD$9.50), which left us with nothing but praises for it. Their ocean-catch section on the menu is also said to be one of the more popular main courses, surely we couldn't miss this one.
My friend certainly enjoyed his main course. I am not a fan of black pepper mainly because I can't handle spicy food well, but I really loved the taste of the fish too — soft, smooth and fresh. I am feeling hungry right now at the thought of it. I think my friend liked the black pepper sauce because he practically dipped all his fries in it! Of course, we had the fries to go along with the fish.
Another good reason for Singaporeans to visit Olivye Cafe-Gelato, is that they are Halal-certified, which means that our Muslims friends in our multi-religious country can visit too! They are the only cafe in Singapore that serves Halal gelato (other than mainstream chain restaurants like Swensens or Pastamania). Not only that, their gelato menu alone is so enticing! I mean, just look at how many flavors there are.
Spotted my favorite blue gelato (Azzurro Krem flavor). I have a weird obsession with any food that is blue, so imagine my excitement when I learned that Olivye serves gelato that is blue in color. Aren't the colors beautiful? But of course, other than it's beautiful colors, Olivye Cafe-Gelato is also well known for – obviously – their yummy gelato. Oh, if you and your friends want to look for a spot to sit down and chit-chat over some gelato, they too, have ice cream buffets from 3pm to 5pm! Yay to all ice cream lovers!
Fancy some adorable log cake for your family this Christmas? Some gelato log cake would be really special. These are priced at SGD$39.90 for classic gelato flavors, and SGD$49.90 for premium ones.
Of course, I had two generous scoops of Azzurro Krem, or what I would call blue gelato for dessert. I remember I kept checking my tongue to see if it turned blue. One is never ever too old for some delicious ice-cream.
If you're planning for a trip with your friends to the east, take some time to drop by Olivye Cafe-Gelato for some pocket-friendly yet delicious food and gelato. It would be the perfect Alternatively, drop by at their other outlets (no gelato available) at NIE, NTU and ITE-AMK respectively!
